Speaking to Feverpitch yesterday in Abuja, the football enthusiast said although they have won their matches convincingly, the Flying Eagles players have failed to put the speed of their team mates to good use.
He said most of the times, the VVV Venlo of Holland and Asec Mimosa speed-stars make dashing runs but those to supply him with accurate passes had always failed him.
Dokunmo said the team’s mid-fielders who should supply their team mates with the killer passes over indulge in passing the ball around the centre circle.
His words: “What I noticed right from the beginning is that most of Ahmed Musa and Olarewanju’s incursions into the box are self made. They are not enjoying sufficient supply from the mid-fielders. Most times they go back to pick the balls before charging into the opponents goal area.
“On several occasions, they made good runs but nobody supplied them with the expected passes. Instead they knock the ball around the mid-field. By the time they decide to release the ball, the players find themselves in offside position”.
Dokunmu therefore called on the technical crew to educate the mid-fielders on how best to make judicious use of the two strikers.
He said if supplied with the vital passes, Musa and Kayode have what it takes to penetrate any defence.
“When you look at your players, you know their abilities and work on them. We have Ahmed Musa and Olarewanju Kayode who are pacy players. Tell your mid-fielders to look up and locate these players in good time. It is not every time you knock the ball around”, he advised
