Residents of Gasakpa in Abaji Area Council are now living in apprehension after two cows were allegedly poisoned by yet to be identified persons in the area.

The village chief of Gasakpa, Yahaya Mohammed, who spoke with our reporter after he led members of his traditional council to report the incident to the secretary of the council, Alhaji Kamal Adamu Shuaibu, yesterday, said residents were afraid of a reprisal attack from Fulani herders.

He said he was in his palace on Monday evening when a report came to him that two cows were found dead in a guinea corn and soya beans farm. 

He said the fact that the Fulani have not come to report the incident to him has further heightened the tension in the area.

“Actually, the Fulani man ought to have  come over to report, but he remained silent and we don’t know what may later follow,” he added.

The secretary of Abaji council who is also the committee chairman on peace between herders and farmers, said when the village chief informed him about the incident, he  immediately set up a committee comprising of security agents  to go to the village to see things for themselves.

He said the committee, which he chaired, would meet with Fulani hardos, the owner of the cows and the farmer next week at the community to see how the matter would be resolved.
