A notorious hacking group, Anonymous, has claimed it breached some Nigerian government websites.

The act is said to be in support of the ongoing #EndSARS violent protest that took over many cities in the country in the last one week.

Anonymous said  via Twitter “Nigeria: Anonymous hacks multiple government websites in solidarity with #EndSARS protestors and retribution for violence by police. #OpNigeria #EndSARS Protest.”

Though the cybercriminal group did not disclose the identity of websites breached, some government agencies and companies have either directly or indirectly reported breach of their websites.

But the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami said the country was taking steps to be ahead of the cybercriminals.

There are some new regulations being planned to further fortify Nigeria’s cyber wall, the minister who was represented by the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof Umar Garba Danbatta said at the National Dialogue on Telecoms and ICT Sector in Nigeria in Abuja last week.

Later in an interview with journalists, Prof Danbatta said cyber insecurity poses threat to digital economy and the government was working to prevent any of its agencies’ websites from being breached.
