The Federal Polytechnic Bida, Niger State, will introduce nine new academic programmes in response to its expansion plan, the Rector, Dr Abubakar Dzukogi, has said.
Speaking during the 2018/2019 matriculation exercise of the institution, the rector said resource inspection of facility preparatory to the exercise was expected to take place soon.
The new effort would increase the number of courses offered by the institution.
Dr Dzukogi said the proposed programmes, which would be agricultural and entrepreneurial related and aimed at making prospective graduates self-sufficient, would be pursued vigorously.
He noted that the programmes expansion would not be at the detriment of standard, while promising that the administration would strive to ensure that all certificates issued by the polytechnic meet the highest standards of academic excellence in line with the global trends of competitiveness.
He urged the students to embrace new ways of doing things by shunning antisocial activities such as cultism, examination malpractices and drug abuse.
Daily Trust reports that 8,500 students comprising of National Diploma and Higher National Diploma candidates were admitted for the 2018/2019 academic session.
