The government should deal with the situation by way of pre-empting the food crisis for the next two to three years that the states may suffer from.
As matter of fact, the governments of Borno and Yobe had been suffering since the crisis began 2009, both economically and, for the people, psychologically. Now that the federal government has decided to send in some help, some may argue that such gesture could have been done even before the emergency was imposed. However, as a citizen of one of the affected states and feeling of the impact, I would like to suggest to the federal authorities that they should sit up and prepare to help the affected states for the period of two to three years, because people there are not in a position to cultivate their farms due to the activities that brought about the state of emergency unless the crisis come to an end soonest.
The argument that Tijjani made that the “crisis will not affect farmers much” I think it was a slip of tongue; otherwise he should know very well that millions of Borno and Yobe farmers cannot go to their farms right now. Due to the obvious reasons, how then can food production not be disrupted? I think our political leaders should stand up and liaise with their friends, even outside the government of the affected states, more especially, Borno and Yobe.
It is good a good thing that the Borno State government is striving under a most challenging situation to some of the affected people in Maiduguri and other cities hit by crisis.
