They made the plea against the backdrop of continual rainfall in Calabar and its environs which have negatively affected their area.
Residents of Road 7 and members of Federal Low Cost Housing Residents Association in a letter written by their Chairman Dr Vincent Ogbeche said they used to suffer from flooding, especially in July and October every year.
The residents also lamented the poor drainage system which has contributed to the flood, adding that roads were not tarred and drainage system has not been rehabilitated for many years.
“As new buildings are springing up rapidly draining water into the same gutter, the volume of water and intensity of flood also increases,” the letter said.
It said flood caused havoc to houses, and impaired movement to work and school for parents and children.
The letter added: “Each time we experience this, we run to NTA, NAN, CRBC, Cross River Radio for help and the ministry of works for rescue to no avail. We have heard that contract for this project had been awarded by government several years ago but nothing has been done”.
The residents said as the Commission was presently rehabilitating the Federal Housing Estate Police Station road through the Estate Nursery/Primary School up to the Customs’ Quarters, they would be happy if work is extended to address their own problems.
