Disclosing this to Grassroots sports in an interview, the federation president, Toke Aka, said over the year, his federation has discovered that most of the great scrabble players that have done Nigeria proud came from schools.

“We have noticed that most our good player come from higher institutions of learning, which mean we have to focus more of our attention on that area, so that we can discover more talents for Nigeria.

“Any sport that does not have a good feeder team can hardly achieve anything tangible. That is why we want to go to secondary schools to introduce scrabble to the kids, some of who we believe will turn out to be great scrabble players in the nearest future.

“Our best national player today is an undergraduate from University of Benin. We believe that if we go to secondary schools, more of such players will be discovered and nurtured to stardom,” Aka said.

He also disclosed that the federation has succeed in taking scrabble to Nigerian University Games (NUGA) to be hosted this year by University of Benin, saying the effort will help to discover more players that will represent Nigeria in international competitions.
