Lecturers at Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, have vowed to go on with their strike since August 14 after the school’s management failed to meet their demands.

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics told journalists the school failed to implement promotion for three years since 2014, did not pay enhanced arrears, did not pay shortfall of six months salary, and did not meet demand for 27 months of staff academic allowances.

The union’s chairman Ahmed Mukaddas accused the school rector of not conducting convocation in the last seven years and lamented inadequacies in laboratories and workshops in all the polytechnic.

The chairman also informed that ASUP members will not honour any invitation by the Polytechnic’s management until their demands are met.

He alleged that the management had invited some of their members for promotional exam while they are on strike in order to bring disunity among them.

"So we must boycott the promotional exam, Any member that disobeys the union instruction will be dealt with," he said.‎

ASUP also accused the Rector, Dr. Shu’aibu Musa of illegal recruitment of staff saying that the management must stop new staff employment until they are paid all their outstanding staff benefits.

"They cannot be recruiting while we are not receiving our benefit" he said.‎

The staff of the polytechnic later matched round the polytechnic premises carried placards.
