What inspired you into music, and how long have you been singing?
I have been singing since 1990 or thereabout. I was in primary one – at Pabod Model Primary School – Old GRA PortHarcourt. I remember my first performance on stage, singing – “The more we are together, together, together, the more we are together the happier we shall be.”
I think family and environmental influences inspired me into music. Growing up, I saw all members of my nuclear family; my close friends and other family members express their love for music at the slightest opportunity. My mum sang in the choir. She still sings. My dad loved all kinds of music – especially jazz, countryand highlife; I would stay awake with him in the early hours of the mornings, 1:00 – 2:00 am listening to the likes of Jim Reeves, Rex Lawson, Don Williams and all sorts. My siblings till date, respond with so much alacrity to music… I guess I was born into music.
With several other artistes in the country, how do you intend to make a difference?
I believe God has blessed each of us with a minimum of one gift. Many of us have similar gifts but with different instructions on where, when and how these gifts are to be used.
Personally, I think my ability to make a difference will be – to stick to my purpose as earlier stated, remain in close touch with the Holy Spirit by whom all my inspiration comes, constantly stimulate my creative ability to ensure freshness in every song the Lord gives me or any other initiative I come up with. As long as I am using my talents to proffer solution(s) to one or more issues, I’ll be making a difference.
I would like to state that all creatures of God have something good to contribute in order to make this world a better place. Therefore, we human beings need to search ourselves, develop our talents and ensure that they are being used for God’s intended purpose.
Part of my own purpose of existence is to minister in songs to God Almighty, be an encouragement to the body of Christ and to lead people to Christ (Evangelism) which is what ‘Life in Christ – 001’ is all about.How can you know God’s purpose for your life? You need to get in touch with Him.
What is your advice for upcoming women musicians?
My advice to up-coming female musicians is – “Have and hold your values.” I have tried to study the music industry, as well as secular and gospel musicians and I have discovered that the industry is becoming increasingly perverted mainly because of fame and fortune. More so, females are the common ‘tools’ used for this perversion.
A woman who creates and keeps godly values for herself will not only be ministering and/or entertaining but will also be putting a smile on God’s face – which is paramount.
Having kick-started your music career, how would you combine it with the home-front?
God gives grace for every race. I will make it with proper time management and by the help of the Holy Spirit.
Briefly tell us about the album you launched last year?
The album I launched on 23rd November, 2014, is my debut album. It’s an album with nine songs and one skit (10 tracks), produced by Benjamin Israel at Boogie down Studio Jabi, Abuja. Each track is for either or all of the following purposes, worship and praise of God Almighty, encouragement to the body of Christ and evangelism.
