A major repair work is being carried out by the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) on the Bauchi-Jos federal highway.

The Bauchi office of FERMA is carrying out the work as part of Federal Government’s effort to get rid of potholes and failed sections on major federal highways across the country.

The project, tagged: “Operation Safe Passage”, follows a directive by the Minster of Works, Babatunde Fashola, for the rehabilitation of the nation’s federal highways.

The Head of Bauchi FERMA Field Office, Engr. Muhammed Ibrahim, said the project started from Km16 to Km115+250 near Bauchi State’s border with Plateau State.

Engr. Ibrahim added that several potholes were being dressed on the highway with two major failed sections covering several metres.

He said the major failed section at Km32 located in Wam Community had been repaired by FERMA engineers and that the other one located near Tilden Fulani had also been completed.

“The one located at Wam was a failed section which had been repaired several times. We did a very good work to see that it lasts. The stretch at Tilden Fulani was severely cracked with dangerous small and big potholes. So we had to do an asphalt overlay to repair it.

“The work is going on simultaneously. We fill in the potholes and do the overlays so that it will not affect motorists…because it is the major highway linking the southern part of the country to the North East through the North Central,” he said.
