Fertiliser: Benue warns officials against sharp practices

The Benue State Government has warned its officials not to engage in sharp practices capable of jeopardising the effort at making fertiliser and other farm inputs accessible to farmers in the state as this year’s cropping season begins.

Gov. Samuel Ortom said for sustainable food security and accelerated improvement in the livelihood of the people of Benue, it became necessary to address the problems farmers encountered in the past in accessing necessary commodities for their farms.

Gov, Ortom said government, through the state Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, in view of such challenges, engaged vendors to supply fertiliser to farmers at highly subsidised prices.

Ortom who spoke at Yakpande-Ikpayongo in Gwer East Local Government Area of the state while flagging off the 2018 cropping season and sale and distribution of fertiliser and other farm inputs, noted that government would closely monitor the sale and distribution of the products.
