Farmers in Katsina have applauded the state government for what they termed judicious distribution of fertiliser across the state.
While speaking with Daily Trust in Dayi, Malumfashi LGA, Malam Ahmad Boda, a farmer, said if the procedures adopted by the current administration is sustained, farmers will benefit immensely.
“During the previous government politicians and other influential individuals were in the habit of diverting the largest share of the fertiliser meant for the farmers. But as Masari’s administration streamlined the process of sales and distribution of the commodity, we now have sense of belonging.”
He added that as against the previous arrangement where only 60 bags were allocated to a polling unit, this administration has increased the number to 86, and sold at the rate of N1, 750 to farmers, irrespective of their party affiliation.
A maize farmer in Kankara, Sagir Muhammad, commended the government and the committee saddled with the responsibility of distribution of the fertilizer, calling for increase in quantity.
One of the committee members interviewed on condition of anonymity said they were mandated to ensure that fertilisers get to real farmers.
