FG: 9.2 Million Vulnerable Nigerians have Benefited from Cash Transfer

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and poverty reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, says about N9.2 million beneficiary households across Nigeria have received at least the first tranche of ₦25,000 from the cash transfer programme.
Speaking at the implementation briefing and press conference of the Household Prosperity and Empowerment Cash Transfer programme (HoPE-CT), he said the second and third tranches were progressing steadily.
He said 7,203,579 beneficiaries had received the second tranche, and 6,497,089 had received the third, with disbursement continuing to roll out across all states, hence, the remaining beneficiaries within these tranches were actively being processed, and every eligible household would receive their full entitlement.
Doro explained that “through the HoPE Cash Transfer Programme, implemented under the National Social Safety Nets Project — Scale Up (NASSP-SU), the Federal Government is delivering direct financial support to poor and vulnerable households across the country.”

“Under this intervention, eligible households receive ₦75,000 distributed over three tranches, helping families meet essential needs such as food, healthcare, and education.”
He revealed that the programmes which was targeted at 15 million vulnerable Nigerians would be achieved by June this year.
According to him, the figures represent not just statistics, but millions of households whose dignity and resilience were being supported through government action.
He said the approach of the government reflects collaborative federalism, where states, local governments, and communities participate actively in beneficiary identification and validation.
Doro said out of the 9.17 million beneficiaries reached so far, 5,391,225 were women representing 58.7% of all beneficiaries, while 3,787,612 were men, representing 41.3%, hence reflecting the programme’s deliberate commitment to strengthening household welfare and promoting women’s economic participation.
“While the programme provides immediate relief, the long-term vision is to create pathways toward sustainable household prosperity.
He explained that registration, enrolment, and participation in the HoPE Cash Transfer Programme were completely free, warning that no Nigerian should pay a single naira to benefit from the programme.
On his part, National programme manager, National Cash Transfor Office (NCTO), Abdullahi Alhassan Imam, revealed that the Cash Transfer Programme started in November, 2023
He said the Cash Transfer Programme was funded through a loan of $800M from the IDA of the World – Bank to support 10.4 million Household of which to-date 9.2 Million have benefited at least one Trench of ₦25,000.
He said the Federal government has increased the number of the beneficiaries from 10.4 Million to 15 Million.
On her part, Director General, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr.(Dr) Abisoye Coker-Odusote reported that as of the end of February, a total of 13,240,100 individual records ad been securely shared with NIMC for verification.
She said out of the disclosed figure, 11,831,861 records have been successfully verified, while 1,408,284 records did not pass verification, hence, she emphasized that it was not a setback rather a strength of the system.
“Through the NIN-based verification system, we are eliminating duplication, reducing leakages, and strengthening public trust in government interventions. We are ensuring that social investments reach real people — the most vulnerable Nigerians for whom this programme is designed.”
“As we speak, an additional 3.1 million records are currently undergoing processing. By the end of March, we expect a significant increase in the number of successfully verified beneficiaries, further expanding the reach and impact of the HoPE-CT programme,” she said.
