The federal government, through the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), has formalised a partnership with the African Fertiliser and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP) to bolster Nigeria’s agricultural input supply system.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Wednesday in Abuja during the closeout event of the Agricultural Input Resilience Programme, part of the Sustain Africa initiative managed by the Office of the Vice President and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS).
Michael Sudarkasa, President and CEO of AFAP, highlighted the significance of the collaboration, stating that it would provide a crucial boost to Nigeria’s agricultural sector. “We are pleased with the outcomes of the Agricultural Input Resilience Programme. This initiative has showcased the effectiveness of public-private partnerships in tackling critical issues within Nigeria’s agriculture. AFAP is committed to advancing sustainable agricultural development and resilience in Nigeria,” Sudarkasa said.
Muhammed Abu Ibrahim, Chief Executive Secretary of NADF, stressed that the MoU represents a pivotal advancement. “The signing of this MoU will enable the Nigerian government to leverage AFAP’s expertise, enhancing our efforts to build a more resilient agricultural sector,” Ibrahim noted.
Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, Minister of State for Agriculture, praised the partnership as a benchmark for public-private collaborations in agriculture. “We are enthusiastic about continuing our work with AFAP and Sustain Africa,” Abdullahi said.
Ibrahim reiterated the importance of the agreement, affirming that it would significantly contribute to strengthening Nigeria’s agricultural sector through the combined efforts of the government and AFAP.
