FG approves Abia skills acquisition centre for training

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige has  said the Multi-Disciplinary Skills and Entrepreneurship Centre Umuobiakwa, Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia state will be used as centre for training under the Federal Government E-Empowerment Programme.

Ngige disclosed this  at Umuobiakwa Friday  when he inspected the  training facilities at the Centre.  The minister expressed satisfaction with the facilities at the training centre.

“I am impressed with what I have seen in the centre which is in line with our focal point for the E-Empowerment. This will be used for the programme”, said the Minister.

Raymond Aliga, the chief Executive of Multi-Disciplinary Skills and Entrepreneurship Centre,  told the Minister the Skills Acquisition Centre was in partnership with Abia state Government under PPP arrangement. Aliga said apart from training of students in various skills of their choice, the centre has enough machines and equipment for fabrication of metal products that could compete favourably with foreign ones.

He said some of the products that can be produced at the centre  include: streetlight poles, solar energy poles, office furniture, upholstery chairs, brick molding, block laying, mason, plumbing and tile-laying among others.” 

He urged government agencies to patronize the centre products, saying the  centre has equipment and manpower to meet orders.

Also speaking during the occasion, Endi Ezengwa, the Chief executive of Kiara-De luxe Academy the training partners of Multi-Disciplinary Skills and Entrepreneurship Centre said the centre would be able to train about 600 students in the first year and thereafter the number of intakes would increase.

He said the focus of the centre was in tandem with the requirements of National Board for Technical Education.
