The Federal Government has approved two key regulatory documents aimed at raising standards, enhancing professionalism, and improving safety within Nigeria’s building and construction industry.

Ahmed Dangiwa, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, announced this in Abuja at the induction ceremony of 436 new members into the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON).

He said the newly approved Operation Regulations for Builders Practice in Nigeria and Regulations for Health and Safety for Building Sites in the country were submitted by CORBON to strengthen quality and ethical standards in the built environment.

Arc. Dangiwa, represented by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mukhtar Umar, said the approval underscored the government’s commitment to providing a robust policy framework that supports sustainable development in the sector.

“The Regulations provide comprehensive guidance on operational procedures, supervisory protocols, and health and safety responsibilities for practitioners across the building construction value chain,” he explained.

Dr Samson Opaluwah, the Chairman of CORBON, urged the new inductees to embrace innovation and modern technologies to tackle the persistent challenges in the construction sector. He expressed confidence that the fresh crop of professionals would help deepen compliance with the newly approved regulations.

Dr Opaluwah also advocated legislation to fully recognise the National Building Code, stressing that this would promote strict adherence to standards nationwide.
