The advice was given through the Special Adviser to the President on National Schools Agricultural Programme (NSAP) Dr. Baraka Sani in Lagos during the presentation of  certificate of appointment to one of the ambassadors of the imitative, Mr. Tony Elumelu.
Baraka said the government has provided the enabling environment for agriculture in Nigeria to thrive, adding that the active involvement of students in agriculture would not only make them better persons and create jobs but it would also add value to the economy.
The aim of NSAP was to develop students agriculture enthusiasts in selected secondary schools across Nigeria, she continued.
“The goal of the NSAP is  to build technical and entrepreneurial skills in students to run agriculture as a business, to leave school with practical skills to create jobs for themselves and to enable them develop a positive attitude towards agriculture.”
Speaking, Mr. Elumelu, Chairman of Heirs Holdings, commended the administration of President Jonathan for its renewed vigour on agriculture, saying the development would improve the nation’s economy.
He described NSAP initiative as a proactive measure to help the youth in agriculture and create wealth for Nigeria.
He said he would use his appointment as one of the ambassadors of the NSAP to develop agriculture.
During a ceremony at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on October 20, President Goodluck Jonathan launched the National Schools Agriculture Programme (NSAP) and appointed 10 ambassadors to promote the innovative plan.
The newly appointed ambassadors include: former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd), Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe (rtd), Tony Elumelu, Bola Shagaya, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Onyeka Onwenu, Tunji Owoeye, Wilma Aguele and Senator Nimi Amange.
