The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) on Tuesday commissioned a four-storey shopping mall with 59 shops in Gwarinpa, Abuja, as part of efforts to boost economic activities and create jobs.

Speaking at the event, FHA Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Oyetunde Ojo, said the project was inherited in an abandoned state but revived in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“On assumption of duties, this was one of the projects we inherited. With the President’s charge that the days of abandoned projects are over, we ensured it was completed and today it is being commissioned,” Ojo said.

He described the structure as a modern commercial hub equipped with amenities including lifts, escalators and security systems, adding that it would provide direct employment for over 500 Nigerians.

“This mall will take about 500 people off the streets, graduates and non-graduates alike. It is about expanding the economy and creating opportunities,” he stated.

Ojo disclosed that the Authority has secured land in 28 states and commenced the first phase of its Renewed Hope Estates in 17 states, aimed at addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit.

Also speaking, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, commended FHA management for completing the project and urged the agency to replicate similar developments nationwide.

“Housing remains a top priority of this administration. We will continue to provide the enabling environment for agencies like FHA to succeed,” Akume said.

He added that the creation of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to tackling the country’s housing challenges.
