The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Water Resources, has completed 52 solar pump borehole projects in Obafemi Owode and Ikenne Local Government Areas of Ogun State, to improve the living standard and the economic status of the residents in the areas.

The programme Manager, Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWATSAN), Olatokunbo Sonde, who disclosed this at Obafemi Owode, during the monitoring exercise to some of the project sites, to ascertain the level of compliance of the contractors, noted that the project was provided by Partnership for Expanded Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (PEWASH) with the intention to attract investors into the communities and increase capacity for revenue generation in the state.

“The project has three phases and it is in the second phase of substantial increase in project delivery across the state, which would span from year 2019 to 2025”, he said.

Similarly, a 4-man Water Sanitation and Hygiene Committee (WASHCOM), had been inaugurated at each borehole site by the Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene Agency (RUWATSAN), to manage and sustain PEWASH facilities across the benefitting communities.

The Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Ministry of Rural Development, Gbele Olugbebi, represented by the Programme Manager of RUWATSAN,  Olatokunbo Sonde, admonished the newly inaugurated 208 committee members across the 52 borehole sites to discharge their duties in the interest of the communities.
