Okonjo-Iweala was sworn in on Wednesday by President Goodluck Jonathan, a month after the other members of the cabinet assumed office. The minister was supposed to brief the press on Thursday on what she intends to do to move the economy forward but was cancelled afterward. Sources in the ministry said the press briefing was called off because “there are technical issues she needs to discuss with the president.”

 

The online report said that: “Sources further claim that after reading through the federation accounts Dr. Okonjo-Iweala cried out in her native Igbo language and not long after that she handed in her handwritten resignation.

According to the report, her resignation letter read: “Dear Sir, Thank you for the confidence you’ve placed in me but this is beyond me, and I dare say, it is beyond any living person. You don’t need me. You need God. Good luck with all that. Signed: Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala.” A statement to refute the resignation rumour by her aide, Paul Nwabuikwu said “The information is completely false and without foundation.”
