The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, has directed immediate remedial works be carried out at five different locations across the country affected by recent heavy downpours.
A statement by the director of information in the ministry, Theodore Ogaziechi, said the areas affected by the washouts include the km7+250 from Bida, along the recently awarded Lambata-Lapai-Bida road project to Messrs CGC Nig. Plc, immediately after the Nigerian Cereal Institute in Niger State.
The statement said the contractor commenced mobilization to site on the directive of the ministry yesterday to enable free flow of traffic.
Also included is the Armco Pipe collapse at km16 along Bida-Minna, Niger State road which the Niger State Government has commissioned a federal contractor, Messrs Triacta Nig. Plc, to restore for safe passage.
At Kwaita bridge along Abuja-Lokoja carriageway, the subsisting contractor, Reynolds Construction Company was directed to commence immediate remedial works.
Other washout locations are at Bayo LGA on the road linking Gombe-Biu in Borno State, FIK Construction Company has been directed to move in and commence palliative measures and at Jabbi-Lamba village along Yola-Mubi road before Girei LGA.
