FG directs states to enforce approved national curriculum

The Minister of Education Mallam Adamu Adamu has directed all state governments to ensure that access to the approved national curriculum through the Electronic-Curriculum portal is facilitated for all schools, teachers and students in their respective states.

He said the state should through their various Commissioners of Education and Ministries enforce the adoption and use of e-curriculum. 

Mallam Adamu disclosed this today in Abuja at the stakeholders’ Forum on e-curriculum for Basic and Senior Secondary Schools organized by Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) and SIDMACH Technologies Nigeria limited.

The minister who was represented by the permanent secretary, Folasade Yemi-Esan noted that the application of e-curriculum solution will significantly curb the current problem of shortage of curricula in public schools across the country.

“The federal ministry of education will take appropriate steps to ensure that the Unity Colleges and all other schools in Nigeria key into effective use of the e-curriculum to enhance the needed and desired outcome,” he said.

The Executive Secretary of NERDC, Prof. Ismail Junaidu said the e-curriculum is designed to provide digital access to school curriculum, teaching and learning resources for teachers, learners and other stakeholders.

Prof. Junaidu noted that the e-curriculum portal was launched in 2014 and that in furtherance of the quest for national excellence, sustainable development and global compeptitiveness that the forum was organized, saying “It is hoped that the outcomes and deliverables of this forum will provide useful tools to enhance the adoption and use of the e-curriculum in Nigerian schools.”

He also called on stakeholders to key into the initiative to induce and sustain access and quality of education in Nigeria.

However, the purpose of the e-curriculum is to ensure online and offline access to the prescribed national curricula in all subjects offered at the Basic and Senior Secondary Education levels in Nigeria.

It will also enable students and parents have online access to subject descriptions, prerequisites, objectives and the National curriculum content standard and assist policy makers as well.
