The federal government has disbursed a total of N103,541,090,666 for the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) since the commencement of its implementation in the country, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, has said.

The BHCPF was established under the National Health Act 2014 as the principal funding vehicle for the basic minimum package of health services.

Pate disclosed this during the Ministerial Oversight Committee meeting on the BHCPF yesterday in Abuja.

He said government approved the disbursement of N25 billion to the states of the federation through two BHCPF gateways: the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) and the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

The minister said that would provide them with direct facility financing as well as resources to be able to satisfy their own workforce, and for the NHIA to be able to provide financial protection for the vulnerable population.

The Executive Director of NPHCDA, Dr Muyi Aina, said part of the N25.8 billion would be subsequently disbursed to the states to strengthen primary health care centres.

Speaking on behalf of the state health commissioners, Ekiti State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Oyebanji Filani said, “We are committed to ensuring that every Nigerian has access to good quality of healthcare services.”
