The Federal government under ANCHOR Borrower Scheme, has distributed agricultural inputs to farmers to boost rice production in Yobe state.
The state Coordinator of the scheme, Malam Bamanga Hayatu, stated this during the distribution of the input to rice farmers from Bade and Jakusko local government areas, in Gashua town.
Bamanga said the input distribution was aimed at boosting rice production to bridge the gap created by the banned of rice importation by the federal government.
"It will also address food security and creat more jobs for unemployed youths, especially in the areas ravaged by Boko Haram insurgency", he said.
He said that each farmer was provided with bags of NPK fertilizers as well as water pumps, seeds, chemicals, insecticides, sacks and pesticides.
"This is for the wet season, we will commenced distributing for the dry season hopely in November this year" he added.
He noted that the scheme will monitor the implementation of the programme to determine if the farmers would continue to benefit the easy access to inputs for more successful farming season.
He urged the beneficiary farmers to make judicious use of the inputs so as actualise the intended purpose.
One of the beneficiaries, Malam Adamu Kalariya, said the the ANCHOR borrower scheme is a life saving scheme considering the number of indigent farmers that benefited from the inputs.
"I have been into rice farming for over 20 years but this is the first time that we received support from the federal government", he said.
He also assured that would continue to support the government effort of attaining food security in the country.
