The Federal Government should not forsake the private education sector in the country. Private schools play a vital role in our education system, such that, to a large extent, they fill the gap our public schools lack.

Private school proprietors and teachers are suffering because of the closure of schools due to COVID-19 pandemic. For the past five months, proprietors cannot afford to pay teachers’ salaries.

The Federal Government should please come to our aid with measures that can put food on our tables while the closure of schools lasts.

Stop the incessant kidnapping on Abuja-Lokoja road

The Abuja-Lokoja road has become the new target for bandits. Several persons have been killed and others abducted on the very busy Lhighway.

We call on security agencies to act fast to save the lives of innocent and well-meaning Nigerians who ply that road daily. It is the only road linking the North to other parts of the country.

When these bandits lay ambush on the road, they do not spare lives. A clear example is a Kogi-based businessman, Nicholas Ofodile, who was killed alongside other taxi drivers. Several persons have also been abducted on the same road.

Reconsider decision on WASCE

The Federal Government should please reconsider their decision on the the West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE) and allow our children to take part in it. They should not allow our education sector to suffer.

Although these children are young, government needs to understand that they know the importance of observing safety measures. What will most of them be doing for the months that schools will be closed? Please, reconsider your decision.

NDDC: How was N82bn used on condolences, COVID-19 in 5 months?

The House of Representatives Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has interrogated officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Accountant-General of the Federation and the Auditor-General of the Federation over the N82billion spent by the NDDC from January to May.

I wish to inform CBN officials, accountant-general and the auditor-general that the people are also awaiting their response on how the said N82bn was used on condolences and COVID-19 in five  months. This is absurd.

This must not be swept under the carpet as too many of such cases get whitewashed and forgotten.

The Federal Government should kindly look into this matter so that we could have some sense of accountability and transparency in this country.
