”FG dredges Typha-grass from Nguru river to create millions job in Yobe”

The Federal government, through ecological office, Ministry of environment, has commenced dredging of Typha grass that has taken over Hadeijia- Jama`are river basin, along Nguru wetland, in Yobe state.

Jibrin Umaru Kortom, the state commissioner for environment, disclosed this in an interview with Daily Trust, in Damaturu.

Kortomi revealed that the clearing of the typha-grass would go a long way to creating millions of job for farmers and fishermen inhabiting along the wetland.

He said, for years, the grass has been causing havoc to the communities along the Nguru valley, "The deadly grass has blocked the waterways, causing perennial flood, and hampering farming activities in the thousands of communities along the valley," he said.

He said that during the flagg off of the Typha grass clearing, the Minister of Environment, Hajia Amina Mohammed, also promised to help Yobe fight all its ecologically problems, while commending the state for re-establishing Ministry for environment.
