FG earmarks 2.5bn to eliminate malaria

The national malaria strategic plan determine to achieve 100 percent  net distribution coverage.
The National Coordinator, Malaria Elimination Programme Dr. Nnenna Ezegwe stated this during the flagging off of long lasting nets, mass replacement campaign against malaria in Bauchi State.
She said that about 3,283,137  long lasting nets are quantifiable required to go round the entire state with the commencement of free long lasting nets to residents as a measure to eliminate the scourges of malaria in the some states like Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Nasarawa and Rivers states considered accessible to malaria outbreak.
Ezegwe added that the programme is aimed to deliver long lasting nets to 2 persons in the state through house to house mobilization approach in  federal government’s renewed commitment to eradicate malaria.
She urged the state government to support federal government to fast tract the implementation of the programme outline in the campaign period, and advised  community, religious and traditional leaders to support the programme.
Speaking at the occasion, Governor. Isa Yuguda  said that government has been providing  free medical care to under age children and pregnant women in the state.
The governor who was represented by the commissioner for religious affairs Salisu Ahmed Barau said government had embarked on rigorous campaign against malaria outbreak and explained that the state had  signed a Memorandum of understanding  (MOU) with World Bank to eliminate malaria in the state.
