Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said technology and innovation could provide solutions to Nigeria’s socio-economic problems.

A total of 25 business owners have been selected to develop ideas that will help solve some of the humanitarian problems facing the people of North East.

Areas of intervention include water supply, energy, information technology, agriculture and hygiene.

Speaking at the inauguration of the North-East Humanitarian Innovation Hub in Yola on Tuesday, Osinbajo said government would support ideas to tackle challenges in health and education.

He disclosed that the federal government is establishing innovation centres in Lagos and Abuja as well as one in each of the six geo-political zones to crowd source ideas and solutions.

"The North-East Humanitarian Hub is not just an idea, it is a very deliberate attempt to bring innovation and cultivate innovation.

"The only way forward for Nigeria is innovation and technology. This is one of those centres. You must create opportunities for some of us to sit somewhere and think", he said.

In his remark, Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Martin Babale, said the hub was in line with the state government’s empowerment programmes.

He commended the federal government and security agencies for restoration of peace to the state, saying that has provided enabling environment for business to flourish.
