The Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) Giessen-Friedberg has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding vocational training infrastructure and institutional partnerships across Nigeria in partnership with the federal government.

The move comes as part of efforts to strengthen a two-decade collaboration between the German chamber and Nigerian agencies in youth skills development, entrepreneurship, and private sector growth.

Since 2005, IHK Giessen-Friedberg has partnered with Nigerian chambers and associations to enhance the quality of vocational education, leading to measurable gains in youth employment and technical capacity.

Over the past two years, the German chamber has led at least two official missions to Nigeria annually, while Lai Mohammed has attended the chamber’s international B2B conference, The World Meets in Giessen, as both keynote speaker and panelist to discuss key growth of MSMEs especially providing infrastructure support for their development.

Speaking at a virtual conference on Thursday, Dr. Matthias Leder, Chief Executive Officer of IHK Giessen-Friedberg, said the current visit of the chamber’s delegation to Nigeria aims to consolidate previous gains and scale up joint programmes.

“Discussions are scheduled with senior government officials, including the Ministers of Labour and Employment, Youth Development, Education, Foreign Affairs, Budget and Economic Planning, and Industry, Trade and Investment,” he said.

Dr. Leder also announced that the 2025 edition of the chamber’s annual conference, The World Meets in Giessen, will host participants from 14 countries across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, including Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, India, and Brazil.

The event, he said, will feature keynote sessions, expert panels, AI-enabled business matchmaking, and international tenders aimed at expanding trade infrastructure and technical collaboration.
