The Federal Government and Huawei Technologies Nigeria Limited on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to train 1,000 civil servants in Information Technology (ICT).

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha signed on behalf of the government when Huawei officials visited him in his office in Abuja.

The Vice-President, Huawei, Xue Man, said the training will empower civil servants with fundamental ICT knowledge and skills.

He said the ICT for Change is part of Huawei efforts to relate with the local environments and fulfill its social responsibility.

Mustapha said the first phase of the programme tagged “Seeds for Future” which commenced in January 2017 benefited 2,000 Nigerian youths with some of them going for further trainings in China, while some have been engaged by Telecom Providers for possessing Huawei certificate.

He said the second phase of the programme will enhance capacities and capabilities of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) performance and delivery systems.

He said the training sessions will be conducted at Huawei Training Centers in Abuja and Lagos, with officers below 55 years of age as target.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF), Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita, who was also at the event, said the initiative will go a long way in helping to achieve one of the cardinal goals of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2017-2020.
