The federal government has inaugurated the Governing Councils and principal officers of two newly established universities: the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho, Oyo State, and the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State.

Also inaugurated were the Pro-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor of Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano, and the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria, Kaduna State.

Speaking at the ceremony in Abuja, Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, said the inauguration was a milestone in efforts to expand equitable access to higher education.

He said the universities were established to tackle national and global challenges, including food security, public health, renewable energy, and climate change.

“These universities are envisioned as centres of excellence producing research-driven solutions to national needs,” he said.

The minister added that Okeho’s rich agricultural resources and Tsafe’s health and education gaps informed their selection as host communities. He urged the new leaders to provide visionary and accountable leadership.

Dr. Alausa reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure, governance, and research capacity across the tertiary education system under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sai’du Ahmad, also described the development as crucial to addressing Nigeria’s educational and socio-economic priorities.
