She said that a partnership aimed at achieving the mass production of the stoves was already on between potmaker, Tower, and energy firm, Envirofit.
She told Daily Trust that the biofuel stove and cooking bag – only two products under the renewable energy programme – “will definitely be manufactured in Nigeria. Every organization we deal with, if they will not manufacture in Nigeria, we don’t want to deal with them.
“We want to be a manufacturing country. We cannot be buying in millions and providing jobs for people in other countries,” she said.
While biofuel stove uses biological waste as fuel, the cooking bag serves as an energy saving device that keeps food hot enough to cook without flames, she explained.
She said ongoing programmes to help Nigeria switch to cleaner energy were helping to reduce cost of power, including solar.
“The cost for the poor man to take solar into his home has been brought to the barest minimum,” Abubakar noted.
The programme, she said, has been piloted in the country’s six geopolitical zones ahead of possible rollout nationwide.
