The Supervising Minister, Ministry of Education, Nyesom Wike, made this known at the opening of the 20th Nigerian Economic Summit with the theme “Transforming Education through Partnerships for Global Competitiveness” in Abuja.
The expended amount released by TETfund through the National Universities Commission was for project development, academic staff training and development, library development and other high impact projects in tertiary education institutions.
He said government invested N561.9 billion in tertiary and secondary education in the years under review.
He further said that of the amount, N456.559 billion had been accessed, while N65.647 billion had not been accessed.
Wike further said that government invested N144.7 billion in basic education between the period in review, explaining that although basic education was the responsibility of state and local governments, the federal government had since 2005 been dedicating two per cent of its education vote for assistance to the states.
He added that the government also invested in the training of 42,580 primary school teachers during the period.
