The Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing retired Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Idris Adamu as Chairman of the Military Pensions Board, describing the choice as “thoughtful” and “well‑deserved.”
In a statement signed by its President, Ambassador Abdul Dan Bature, the group said the appointment was a recognition of Adamu’s “enterprising spirit, professional competence, and sustained hard work.”
“It is with profound humility and deep sense of patriotism that we extend our heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for appointing one of our own as Chairman of the highly sensitive and strategic Military Pensions Board,” the statement read.
The Assembly noted that Adamu’s long service in the Nigerian Air Force had equipped him with the experience and discipline needed to reposition the Board.
“At this crucial time, there is no one more deserving or better positioned to lead the Military Pensions Board than AVM Abubakar Idris Adamu (rtd.), having served gallantly in one of the key arms of the Armed Forces,” Ambassador Dan Bature said.
He added that Adamu’s appointment was in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to strengthen institutions and improve welfare systems.
“His experience gives him a deep understanding of the challenges faced by military pensioners, and we are confident that he possesses the capacity, discipline, and commitment required to reposition and strengthen the Board for greater efficiency,” the statement continued.
The Assembly expressed optimism that Adamu would “bring his wealth of knowledge to bear and work tirelessly to reshape and uplift the Military Pensions Board for the benefit of our esteemed pensioners.”
The Military Pensions Board is a strategic institution responsible for the welfare of retired military personnel. Stakeholders have long called for reforms to address delays and inefficiencies in pension payments.
The appointment of AVM Adamu, a seasoned officer with decades of service, is seen by the Arewa Youth Assembly as a step toward restoring confidence in the system.
