The Federal Government has commended the Gombe State Government for improving its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from N6 billion to N40 billion within the last six years.

The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reform (BPSR), Dr Dasuki Arabi, gave the commendation on Thursday during a courtesy visit to the Gombe State office of the BPSR.

Arabi praised Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for establishing the bureau in the state and for implementing comprehensive public service reforms aimed at improving service delivery. He said the state was already reaping the benefits of embracing reforms, adding that Gombe had become a model for other states.

According to him, the deployment of technology in the state’s public service, including the introduction of biometric attendance systems, had helped to curb absenteeism, eliminate ghost workers and improve efficiency.

“The reforms, including the digitalisation of systems and operations, are part of the reasons Gombe’s IGR improved from N6 billion in 2019 to N40 billion in 2024. With digitalisation, forgery and other sharp practices have been reduced, leading to improved revenue collection,” he said.

In his response, the Director-General of the Gombe State BPSR, Alhaji Abubakar Hassan, attributed the success of the reforms to the political will of Governor Yahaya. He said the reforms had improved the state’s transparency rating and pledged that the administration would continue to strengthen institutions, promote open governance and deliver better services to the people.
