The National Orientation Agency (NOA), in collaboration with the National Population Commission (NPC) and UNICEF, has launched a birth registration awareness campaign in Gombe State.

The campaign, running from August to November 2024, aims to register all children aged 0-5 years, ensuring they receive a National Identification Number (NIN) at no cost.

The initiative seeks to guarantee that every child is officially recognized by the state, providing access to essential services like education and healthcare.

Ms Adaline Patari, NOA’s Gombe State Director, emphasised the importance of birth registration in securing children’s rights and protecting them from exploitation and statelessness.

She noted that accurate birth data is crucial for effective national planning and development.

NPC Director Jude Maigari further explained that parents need only documents, such as an immunisation card, to register their children.

Community and religious leaders, such as Alhaji Usman Shettima, District Head of Nasarawo, pledged their support to ensure the campaign’s success, and encourage full participation to secure a brighter future for the state’s children.
