The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment (FMITI) has launched an online portal that would contain details of imported and exported products for transparency and accountability.
Speaking at the launch yesterday in Abuja, the Minister of FMITI, Richard Adebayo, said the platform is targeted towards improving the ease of doing business and to fulfill Nigeria’s transparency obligation of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) facilitation agreement.
Adebayo said the ministry in collaboration with UNCTAD German International Cooperation Ministry (GIZ) with support from the EU developed the trade portal in 2016 to assist developing WTO member countries to comply easily with the WTO trade facilitation agreement.
“The portal that describes import, export, and transit procedures is a great step towards enhancement of transparency, predictability, and the mechanism for trade facilitation in Nigeria.”
He said the portal already contains information on export procedures for 11 products of tomato, ginger, chili, pepper, and garment among others, that would aid easy facilitation of trade.
