‘FG must partner with private sector for mobile economic growth’

The Federal Government has been urged to support the mobile economy by partnering with the private sector in terms of policy, innovation and investment. 

The President of the Association of telecommunications companies of Nigeria (ATCON), Mr Olusola Teniola, who said in an interview with Daily Trust at the just concluded Nigeria Mobile Economy Summit and Expo in Lagos, also said asides the partnership with the private sector, government also need to review the issue of multiple taxation as it affects the telecommunications industry negatively.

He insisted that foreign investors would look elsewhere to invest their money if they perceive Nigeria as not implementing policies. 

He said: “We have to have the courage to implement policies so investors can believe in the project called Nigeria. Also, the government should create an enabling environment that will drive more direct investments so that will encourage more investors to come and the existing ones will stay.

“We need them to ensure the implementation of the Nigerian broadband width completed in 2013, that is, a national broadband network that services the mobile applications. We need licences to be given to the infrastructure companies with immediate effect and Optic fibre to transport huge data, should also be made available.”

Participants at the expo cum summit concluded that in this 21st century, both small and established businesses need to apply technology to build and sustain their businesses for it to meet international standards. 

They noted there are numerous opportunities in the cyberspace which every business owners must tap into for future survivability and relevance.
