The Federal Government and the National Assembly have pledged closer collaboration to address gaps between budget planning, implementation and national development goals.

Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, alongside Chairman of the House Committee on National Planning, Gboyega Isiaka, and Senate Committee Chairman, Musa Mustapha, made this known at a national policy dialogue in Abuja yesterday

Bagudu said effective national planning, backed by constitutional provisions, requires strong cooperation among all arms of government, noting that recent reforms were made possible through legislative support.

He stressed that aligning planning with budgeting is critical to achieving sustainable growth, adding that all tiers of government must work together in line with constitutional mandates.

Isiaka also called for deeper collaboration beyond oversight, especially as work begins on the 2026–2030 development plan and efforts toward a $1 trillion economy.

Similarly, Mustapha warned that the disconnect between development plans and annual budgets has slowed Nigeria’s progress, insisting that budgets must serve as a tool for delivering national priorities.

He added that ongoing reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are aimed at strengthening fiscal discipline, improving resource allocation and driving inclusive economic growth.
