FG partners Yobe gov’t on border relation
He said it would enable them to harness data and information based on 14 key indicators
The National Boundary Commission (NBC) is working with the Yobe State government on data to develop a comprehensive border policy in Machina, Nguru, Karasuwa, Yusufari and Yunusari Local Government Areas, which border with neighbouring countries.
The Director General of the commission, Surv. Adamu Adaji, represented by an Assistant Director in charge of cross border cooperation, Dr Aliyu Hamza Dan Agalan announced this on Thursday at a meeting in Damaturu.

He said it would enable them to harness data and information based on 14 key indicators, which include history of ethnic groups, economic resources, security dimension, population size, need of the communities, conflict or cooperation with neighbouring communities among others.
“The data would help us streamline and develop our national border policy and by doing that, we now have a clue about the existing situation of some of these parameters and more importantly for their own needs as land border local government areas so as to enable government and AU border programme to provide the necessary infrastructure for them,” he said.
The Yobe State Deputy Governor, Idi Barde Gubana, who is the Chairman of the state boundary committee noted that the new National Border Policy is aimed at promoting bilateral cooperation between composite states along the international border for sustainable peaceful coexistence and progress of neighbouring border communities.
“We have indeed collectively achieved a landmark success in resolving all Yobe/Gombe interstate boundary disputes and we are collectively working towards an amicable resolution of all Yobe/Bauchi interstate boundary disputes”.
