The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday set up a committee to work on the new minimum wage of N56,000 being demanded by the organised labour.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, disclosed this to State House reporters after the FEC meeting presided over by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.

He said the committee comprises six state governors each from each geopolitical zone and five nominees of the Federal Government.

Ngige said while the organised labour unions would also have their nominees, the Federal Government would nominate a neutral person as chairman of the committee.

He said the committee would be comstituted as soon as all the parties made their nominations.

According to the minister, the labour will make its presentation to the committee for negotiations on the new minimum wage.

Ngige added that whatever agreement reached during the negotiations would be forwarded to the National Assembly for appopriate legislation.
