The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Architect Sonny S.T. Echono, has inaugurated the Presidential Committee on Sustainable Funding for Education in Nigeria.
A statement by the Deputy Director, Press, Ben Bem Goong, said Arc. Echono who would serve as chairman said the committee would approach the assignment with ‘all the seriousness it deserves’.
He enjoined committee members to seek ways of addressing the funding challenges at all levels in the sector with a view to repositioning education in Nigeria, stating that clear and workable ideas, innovations and suggestions on the best funding model for education in the country should be the committee’s watchword.
The committee is the upshot of the communique issued at the end of a stakeholders’ workshop on sustainable funding for education in Nigeria held at the State House, Abuja, between 27 and 28 November, 2018 which was chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Earlier in the year, President Muhammadu Buhari had directed former Education Minister, Adamu Adamu, to come up with innovative ways of sustainable funding for education in the country.
The committee was given three weeks to submit its report to the minister.
