The federal government has reaffirmed its commitment to completing the Katsina-Kano federal highway project, among other ongoing federal projects in the state.

The Minister of State for Works, Barrister Muhammad Bello Goranyo, who visited Katsina State as part of his familiarisation tour, confirmed that the federal government has made adequate budgetary provisions for completing the projects.

The minister noted that five roads are slated for execution in Katsina State, including the Katsina-Kano dualisation Road and the Kano-Daura-Kongolom Road.

The Kano-Katsina Road project, which lingered for over a decade, is expected, once completed, to transform economic activities in the state and improve livelihoods and security across the North West.

On its part, the Katsina State government has welcomed the federal government’s commitment to completing the project.

State deputy governor, Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe expressed appreciation for the federal government’s efforts and promised adequate security for the construction firm.

However, an appeal was made by the state government to the federal government for the payment of compensation, which hampered the progress of the Kano-Katsina Road project.

The federal government’s new policy requires state governments to take responsibility for paying compensation to landowners affected by federal projects.

However, the Katsina State Commissioner of Lands, Dr. Faisal Umar Kaita, requested that the federal government consider paying compensation to landowners affected by the Katsina-Kano Road project, which predates the new policy.
