Kebbi State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KECHEMA), said it has received a grant of over N800m from the Federal Government under its Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) for the provision of free healthcare access to the underprivileged.

The Executive Secretary of KECHEMA, Dr Jafar Mohammed Augie, made this known during the weekend in Birnin Kebbi saying, adding that last year, the federal government released the sum of N407m while the sum of N427m had also been released for this year’s enrollment.

According to him, Kebbi was the only state in the country where 100 per cent BHCPF enrollees were given access to free healthcare services adding that 532 pregnant women gave birth at facilities under the scheme at no cost.

“Last year the federal government redeemed its pledge and made available to Kebbi State through the BHCPF NHIS gateway the sum of N407 million as program fund to pay a premium of 33,938 individuals at the rate of N12,000 per person per annum.

“Kebbi State is the only state where 100 per cent BHCPF enrollees were given access to free healthcare services. 66.6 per cent of facility attendance was recorded, and facility utilization was 111.3 per cent. 532 pregnant women were delivered at the facilities at no cost whatsoever, 68 surgeries were done to beneficiaries free of charge.

“This year, the federal government has made available to our state, through the BHCPF NHIS gateway the sum of N427 million enough to cover 35,609 lives. Soon KECHEMA will embark on the enrollment of the beneficiaries of this second tranche.”
