The minister, who made the disclosure in Abuja while receiving the final progress report on the Science and Technology Post Basic (STEP B) project, said the project has improved the state of infrastructure in schools.
A statement made available by the minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, said: “The US $180 million credit from the World Bank was also used to procure and install state-of-the-art equipment in various fields of science and technology, including engineering, medicine, agriculture and renewable energy.”
The statement said other areas of success were acquisition of internet and ICT facilities which are facilitating e-learning, e-examination and video conferencing in schools that benefitted from the programme.
It said that the minister believed that the state-of-the-art equipment procured helped both staff and students conduct quality research in many critical areas as well as regular practical activities.
Presenting the Final Progress Report, the National Coordinator, STEP B Project, Mrs. Grace Takerhi, said that the programme achieved the fundamental objectives for which it was initiated.
