FG says it is embracing education for self reliance

The Federal government has said it is embracing education for self reliance, job and wealth creation by shifting attention towards skills acquisition courses in schools.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education (FME), Mr Sonny Echono, said the shift will reduce the country’s dependence on foreign goods needed to take care of the nation’s internal needs.

Speaking during the 5th edition of the Annual National Students Skills competition held in the Federal Science and Technical College, Uyo, Echono said it is time Nigeria begins to produce much of what it consumes and put an end to capital flight.

Echono who was represented at the occasion by the Director, Press and Publicity, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Idang Alibi, explained that the shift will reduce the country’s dependence on foreign goods for the use for its growing population.

He stated that the FME has begun the development of a policy on product innovation, exhibition and commercialization that will create a window for the practical use of products from the competition for economic benefits.
