The Federal Government has inaugurated a Joint Implementation Committee to oversee the training and certification of one million Nigerians in digital literacy and emerging technology skills under the Future Proof Economy (FPE) Model.

The committee was inaugurated in Abuja by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana.

Dr Kana said the initiative was part of efforts to deepen human capital development and strengthen workforce readiness in the country.

“This inauguration represents a strategic step toward deepening national digital literacy and improving workforce competitiveness in line with the Federal Government’s development priorities,” he said.

He said the programme aligns with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Our goal is to expand access to functional digital skills across the country, especially among young people, women and underserved communities,” he added.

Dr Kana explained that the project is being implemented through the Clergywealth Digital Skills Nigeria (SkillUp) Initiative, which he said is fully funded by Clergywealth Cooperative Society Limited, with coordination support from relevant government institutions.

“Although the programme aligns with Federal Government policy direction, it is being funded and implemented by Clergywealth Cooperative under the FPE Model, while government provides coordination and oversight support,” he said.

He said the committee would be responsible for providing leadership and stakeholder coordination for the rollout of the training programme nationwide.

Deputy Coordinator of Clergywealth, Mrs Rosemary Ojechemini, said the SkillUp Initiative is designed to support digital inclusion and economic empowerment through structured training and certification.

“The initiative focuses on delivering practical digital literacy and emerging technology skills that can enhance productivity, employability and community-level innovation,” she said.

She added that the programme targets youths, artisans, community groups and underserved populations through what she described as an inclusive enrolment and training framework.

“We are working to ensure that participation is broad-based and inclusive, so that beneficiaries across different social groups can gain useful digital competencies,” she said.

Dr Kana urged members of the Joint Implementation Committee to ensure professionalism, transparency and accountability in the discharge of their responsibilities.

“The success of this initiative will contribute significantly to Nigeria’s drive toward a resilient, technology-enabled economy,” he said.
