Minister of Housing Amal Pepple heads the white paper committee on Dr. Ahmed Lemu panel report, while Interior Minister Abba Moro chairs the one on the Usman Gaji Galtimari committee.

 

Each of the committees has two weeks to present their reports to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Anyim Pius Anyim, who inaugurated the panels yesterday in Abuja.

The Lemu committee presented its reports last week, blaming people’s crave for change among the major causes of the violence that heralded and trailed the April elections. It recommended punishment for the perpetrators.

For its part, the Galtimari committee presented its report to President Jonathan late last month, partly blaming poverty and unemployment for the Boko Haram violence.

Also yesterday, the SFG raised a committee that would review the reports of past constitutional conferences. The committee is headed by former chief justice of Nigeria Salihu Modibbo Alfa Belgore, with Senator Udoma Udo Udoma as vice chairman.

Members of the committee include former information minister Prof Jerry Gana, former secretary to the government of the federation Babagana Kingibe and activist Ledum Mittee.

The committee is to review unimplemented recommendations of past constitutional conferences and submit a report to the government in two months.
