Retired General Muhammad Mansur Dan-Ali, a delegate from Zamfara State, said this yesterday, arguing that there was security lapse at the National Judicial Institute complex hosting the conference.
“There is need to request for soldiers to come here and protect elder statesmen, retired service chiefs and other eminent Nigerians here in this conference. The who-is-who of Nigeria is here, therefore we can’t allow their lives at risk,” he said.
Dan-Ali said security personnel were only deployed at the complex’s entrance, leaving the remaining large expanse of land unsecured.
He also faulted the deployment of operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) to the venue, saying that was not proper.
“SSS is a secret organisation. But they have taken over the work of combat security duties, which is not the situation with its counterpart organisations like Mossad, CIA, KGB, among others,” Dan-Ali said.
But Yinka Odumakin, a delegate from Southwest, countered Dan-Ali, saying any delegate having issues with security should discuss it with the appropriate authorities, not at the plenary.
