FG should invest in film production to tackle unemployment – Prof Atakpa

A professor of Theatre/Film Studies, Uwemedimo Atakpa, has called on the Federal Government to invest more in film production and export especially with the worsening unemployment situation in the country and the decline in oil prices in the global market.

Speaking at the 61st inaugural lecture of the University of Uyo, he said one of the ways to deal with unemployment in the country is to develop and expand the film industry.

He called for the revamp of Calabar Free Trade Zone, noting that the studios can be a major attraction to film makers for any kind of movie.

Atakpa, who spoke on the theme, ‘From Theatre Stage Germaneness to Hollywood’s Artistic Synergy and Economic Survival’, also called for the formation of film companies to be legislated to guide the conduct of the industry.
